It combines the integrating qualities of flowing massage with therapeutic deep tissue work to promote relaxation\, restore tissue health\, and support long-term structural change. Developed by the Hollomans over the course of 40 years\, the form emerged from the knowledge brought to and created at Esalen in the ’60s and ’70s by early bodywork masters. \nThrough Deep Bodywork techniques\, practitioners can enter the deeper soft tissue layers\, freeing previously dense\, hardened areas that may be chronically painful due to a lack of fluid exchange and energy flow. As these areas soften and “re-organize\,” chronic tension patterns release\, revitalizing living tissues with blood\, lymph\, and “Chi” (life) energy. \nWith a clear curriculum and moves designed for easy integration into any current practice\, we’ll focus on intermediate and advanced deep tissue techniques to enhance the therapeutic skills of practicing bodyworkers\, including massage therapists\, acupuncturists\, physiotherapists\, and chiropractors. Our primary intent is to deepen participants’ understanding of how to apply effective deep work on the back\, hips\, and shoulders\, utilizing practical methods for treating acute and chronic pain in these areas. \nEmphasis will be placed on proper body mechanics so practitioners can learn to work with a sense of inner ease and avoid placing unnecessary stress on their own bodies. The premise of this training is to teach presence-based facilitation skills which can be used for: \n\nIndividual and group work with students/clients/colleagues.\nCommunication skill development in personal and professional settings.\nInner development and self-healing through the powerful tools of self-inquiry   taught in this program.\n\nWho is it for? \n\nProfessionals and lay people looking to develop both intuitive and structured coaching skills to support individuals\, groups and organizations.\nPeople focused on their own self-inquiry needing “down-time” to heal themselves.\nIndividuals longing for a clearer sense of life purpose both personally and professionaly.\n\nHow is it structured? \n\nThis training will take place in a retreat setting at Esalen over a four-week period. During our time together we will focus on foundational aspects of the theory and practice of IGC. We will meet 5-6 times a week for a total of 64 hrs.\nStudents who wish to certify will apply skills taught in this training with clients they work with after the conclusion of their stay at Esalen. Thirty documented sessions with clients and five sessions of supervision with Perry are required for a certificate.\n\nTopics we will cover are: \n\nUnderstanding and working with the Continuum of Awareness as the foundation for self-inquiry.\nCreating competently held safe space for our clients’ self-inquiry.\nUnderstanding the Theory of Change in Gestalt.\nUnderstanding and working with the inner critic\, the primary barrier to contact with our authenticity.\nDiscovering and developing our experience of presence as the foundation of human experience and understanding the difference between presence and awareness.\nDeveloping aspects of embodied presence foundational to this work\, e.g. intuitive guidance and authentic compassion.\nHoning our facilitation skills to include more complex interventions designed to deepen the clients’ inquiry and challenge rigid internal structures.\nDeveloping an understanding of our own relationship to conflict and how to support people in its resolution.\nDeepening our own self-inquiry to discover the structures acting as barriers to our maturation as realized human beings.\n\nClick Here to Register! \nAll certificates are granted by the Holloman Institute™.
